South Indian Artists’ Association noble gesture to Senior artistes

It is heartening to see the manner in which Kollywood is planning to take care of senior artistes. The South Indian Artists’ Association has appealed to chief minister J Jayalalithaa to allot at least one acre in Chennai to build an old age home for senior artists in the industry. Association president R Sarathkumar said, “We expect a positive reply from the state government. We have promised the government to build, operate and maintain the old age home on our own. Many members have agreed to fund the project.” This was mooted after actor Mohan lodged a complaint with the cops on his son wherein he sought action against the latter for deserting him.
Talking about the facilities of the old age home, Sarath Kumar said, “We are offering the pension through the Nadigar Sangam Charitable Trust, which is a sister concern of our association. The old age home will have accommodation for about 300 elderly people. There will be at least two doctors, four nurses on call and separate play area for their entertainment.” Can something similar be expected for our senior artistes too?

Vidya Balan sizzles in Silk Smitha based biopic

Vidya Balan seems to have wrapped herself thoroughly in Silk’s character. To those of you who are not aware, Silk has an Andhra connection. Born Vijayalakshmi in a poor family in Eluru, she ran off from a failed marriage to Chennai and was discovered by Vinu Chakravarthy who renamed her Smitha and cast her in odd roles. But her matinee moment came in the 1979 Tamil film Vaendi Chakkram, where she was cast as the character Silk. The name stuck as did the notorious image of a sex bomb. From then on Silk Smitha went on to star in 450 films in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. But stability and love eluded her life and Silk Smitha committed suicide in 1996, at a relatively young age.

It’s my Love Story to clash with Oh My Friend

Dil Raju – Siddharth’s Oh My Friend is gearing up for all 1’s release, i.e. 11-11-11. This is a youthful film targeted at the teenagers and college going youth. Another such film gearing up for release on the day is It’s my Love Story, directed by Madhura Sridhar, who directed Sneha Geetham earlier.
It is a love story between a computer game designer and fashion designer. Aravind Krishna and Nikitha are playing the lead roles in IMLS. Focus would be on Oh My Friend as it has big names to draw the attention of audience. So, it would be a big test for Its my Lovestory to stand against it.
Both the films are of same genres and targeted at the same section of audience. Hence, this would make an interesting clash, even though IMLS will have less scope to get a good opening and have a wide release.
